Spread the Love!
Valentine's Day may not be a Jewish holiday, but why waste any opportunity to spread the love? Our tradition teaches us that love is transformative.
A principle in the Babylonian Talmud states that the Jewish people's care for sacred objects ("חיבת הקודש") actually causes those objects to undergo an ontological change. Before, unloved, they were insignificant. Now, loved, they hold potential and can impact the world around them.
Whether with sacred objects or special people, I think we all know how true this can be. The people in life we cherish—family, friends, partners—are everything. And, really, the Talmud is right. It is davka our love that makes relationships meaningful, both to others and to ourselves.
So, take a moment (or more) this weekend to let someone you love know you love them. It'll make a difference!
